Frequently asked questions

What is a VPS?

A VPS (Virtual Private Server) is a slice of a physical server with resources reserved for you — CPU, memory and disk — and root access. It sits between shared hosting (cheaper and limited) and a dedicated server (expensive).

Why does the server location matter?

Physical distance increases latency. A server in the same region as your visitors answers in a few milliseconds, while one on another continent can take more than 150 ms.

Do the prices include taxes?

Usually not. Depending on your country, VAT or sales tax is added at checkout, and providers that bill in euros may cost a little more or less depending on the exchange rate. Always compare the final amount at checkout.

Managed or unmanaged VPS?

All the options on this list are unmanaged: you take care of installation, updates and security. If you are not familiar with Linux, choose a control panel with ready-made templates, such as Hostinger's.

How do I know if my VPS is overloaded or down?

Use a monitor that tracks CPU, memory and disk and warns you when something crosses a limit. TopVPS Monitor does this for free for servers from any provider: you install a lightweight agent with one command and get email alerts.
